Dec 19th-22nd

Monday:  We went to music and played the xylophone with our fingers.  Today we went to art and finished our self portraits.  In math we played roll and record with 2 dice.  Mrs. Keethler came and told us about the author/illustrator Jan Brett.  We read The Blizzard and recycled some words from a question into an answer.  In calendar we counted and found out that it is the 78th day of kindergarten.

Tuesday:  We had music class and played the xylophone with mallets today.  We also went to the LMC and heard a story about Los Posada.  In math, we practiced our shapes.  We made the shapes with our body and with jump ropes.    We also made a symmetrical snowflake.   We read Recess at 20 Below and wrote a connection to the story.

Wednesday:  We read the Monarch story Never Smile at a Monkey.  We had a United and Unique assembly with Amanda Crockett.  We compared the book of Stranger in the Woods to a video.  In math we practiced addition with snowflakes.  We also read One Winter’s Day and wrote about our favorite part of the story.  We sorted pictures by their beginning sounds.

Thursday:  We read the last monarch picture book Butterflies and Moths.  We had a workshop with Amanda Crockett.  In math, we did addition problems using socks to help us.  Today was the first day of winter.  We read When Winter Comes and wrote in our seasons book.  We also wrote in our journal about something we will do over winter break.

Dec. 12th-16th

Monday:  We went to art and made the nostrils for the nose of our self portraits.  We also went to music and played the melting game.  Our new star letter is Dd.  Today we did our capital letter D handwriting.  In math we practiced addition number stories.  We practiced recycling words from a question to write a complete answer.
Tuesday: We went to music and sang the fish song.  In math we practiced making patterns with pattern blocks.  In the LMC we practiced putting books in alphabetical order.  We read the story Dazzle the Dinosaur and saw a video too.  Today we practiced recycling words from a question into the answer.
Wednesday:  We went to P.E. and played a racecar game.  We did our poem books today.  We also went to art and made our shirts for our self portraits.  We read How Much is that Doggie in the Window?  We did a beginning, middle, and end story map and retold the story to a friend.  In math we practiced putting numbers in order and counting from numbers other than one.
Thursday:  Today we had math centers.  We also read a nonfiction book about dinosaurs and answered a question.  Today we made a dinosaur puzzle too.  We had our December kinconnect story and activity. 
Friday:  In math, we used a calculator.  We went to P.E. and had fitness Friday.  Today we read Interrupting Chicken and had writer’s workshop.  We also wrote in our journal using the popcorn word.  We wrote our Dd words in our word books too.

We also spent some time this week reviewing classroom expectations through discussion and the sharing of some stories including: I Will Keep Trying,  I Am Responsible, I Tell the Truth, I Can Cooperate and  I Can Share.

Dec. 5th-9th

Monday:  In math we played the teen frame game to show our teen numbers.  We had art and music.  In art we worked on our self portraits.  We learned that stories have 3 parts: the beginning, middle and end.  Our star letter this week is Nn and our sight word is “we.”
Tuesday:  In Science, we read a book called Winter.  We had music today and watched a video.  In math we used a walk-on number line to add and subtract.  We read a book called The Napping House and did a beginning, middle, and end project.  We also wrote in our journals about winter.

Wednesday:  In math we played the top-it game to compare numbers.  We went to P.E. and played bowling.  We read The Mitten and made puppets and a mitten to retell the story.  We also drew the beginning, middle and end of the story.  Today we went to art and made the lips and ears for our self portrait. 
Thursday:  Today we had a red card drill and read another version of The Mitten.  In math, we used the pattern block template to make shapes.  We went to P.E. and played the fitness dice.  We wrote in our journals and we also wrote sentences beginning with our sight word “we.”

Friday:  We had an assembly to watch the second grade musical.    We completed a word ladder.  Today we had writer’s workshop and practiced writing sentences with a “who” and “what.”  We also wrote the “Nn” words in our word book.   We went to P.E. and had fitness Friday.

Nov. 28th-Dec. 2nd

Monday:  In math we played the count and sit game and also used the pan balance to compare weights.  We read nonfiction books to learn about ants.  We went to art and put the hair and eyebrows on our self portraits.  In music we pretended to be animals with songs and Chloe played us a song on the piano.
Tuesday:  We practiced the short a sound again today.  We read a fiction book about an ant called An Ant’s Day Off.  In math we played train games to practice adding and subtracting with unifix cubes.

Wednesday:  Today we went to art and watched a Snowman movie.  We also went to P.E. and made letters with jump ropes.  We practiced reading and spelling words in the “an” word family.  In math we made a favorite color graph.  We wrote in our journals too.
Thursday:  Today was the first day of December.  We changed the month on the calendar.  In math we learned how to count by 10s.  Today we went to P.E. and played with the fitness dice.  We practiced long a words.  We read the Monarch contest book Memoirs of a Goldfish.  We also read Ding Dong, Ding Dong about an ape.

Friday:  We had P.E. today and ran, jump roped and hula hooped.    We read another Monarch story called Imogene’s Last Stand.  We did writer’s workshop and began writing our own books.  We read an Eric Carle book and talked about Eric Carle’s writing and illustrating style.  We also wrote in our journals and word books.
All About Me: We learned about Olivia.

Reminders: Please be sure that your child has clothing and outerwear appropriate for the weather each day.  The kindergarteners will go out for lunch recess unless the temperature and/or wind chill is below 0.  It is also a good idea to have your child practice putting on all of their cold weather items independently at home as well as labeling any snowpants, boots, etc. with your child’s name.  Thank you for your help!
