Friday, May 25, 2012
May 21st-25th
Monday:
In math, we added the minute hand to our clock and practiced telling
time. Our new popcorn words are here and
are and our last star letter is Uu.
Today we read The Ugly Duckling and then we wrote about our
favorite part of the story. Today we
went to music and we were practicing the jogging and galloping beat. Today in art we colored our body and shoes
and we will paint later this week. We
also read a book called Fish.
Tuesday: Today we went on a field trip to the DuPage
Children’s Museum. We got to build in
the workshop, go in the wind tunnels, watch the wind carry the fuzz balls
through tubes and lots more fun things.
We also went to the lab and did lots of math activities like patterns,
building and describing block towers, sorting and counting. Back at school we did capital letter U
handwriting. We also went to the
computer lab and did an activity for the story Barnyard Banter. Today we read Fun Dog, Sun Dog. We also practiced telling time and playing
the time match game.
Wednesday:
Today we went to P.E. and played a game called emergency rescue. We went to art and painted. We watched a video about plants and finished
our seed to plant journal. Today in math
we did some adding and subtracting. We
read The Lost and Found and we practiced our comprehension by doing a
sketch to stretch activity.
Thursday:
Today we read a book called Drip, Drop. We went to P.E. and stretched. We read The Night Sky and Stargazers
to learn about stars and constellations.
In math we used our calculators to solve number stories. We also read Dory Story about the
ocean food chain. Today we had a
Memorial Day Assembly. In science we
learned about water and how it changes into different states (solid, liquid and
gas).
Friday:
Today we went to art and finished our hot air balloon projects and we
got our portfolio. We had writer’s
workshop today. We went outside for P.E.
and played Jack Frost. We read the book Me
and My Place in Space and put all of the planets in order. Today we read Splash in the Ocean. In math we used the pan balance to weigh
objects. We also read the story called The
Planets in our Solar System.

May 15th-18th
Tuesday:
Today we read Quick as a Cricket.
Our new sight word is me and our star letter is Qq. We went to the computer lab and practiced
typing our ABCs. Katie was the reader of
the day and she read Fred and Ted’s Road Trip. In math, we talked about and looked at the
dollar bill. We also answered questions
about our weather graphs. We went to
music today and sang a lot of songs. We
also checked our plants and recorded our observations in our seed to plant
science journals.
Wednesday: Today in art we made a hot air balloon basket. We went to P.E. and played fitness Wednesday. In R & R Joey read us The Bernstein Bears at the Aquarium. In math we played the one dollar game. We had our May math centers today. We read The Patchwork Quilt. We wrote in our journals.

Today in P.E. we had back-to-back buddies. We read Sally Jean, the Bicycle Queen
and wrote about the beginning, middle and end and retold the story with a
friend. In math, we made name collection
posters. During R & R, Daniel read us the book Flying High. We also had handwriting and got to move our
boat. We wrote about our favorite part
of kindergarten and had writer’s workshop.
Friday:
Today we went to P.E. and played outland. Matthew was our last reader of the day and he
read us the book Dinosaur Hunt.
We had a fire drill and wrote in our journals. This morning we colored words with the /q/
sound. We reviewed story elements and made stories with a
partner. Each kindergartner interviewed
a partner and recorded the data. In
science we talked about what plants need to grow and we also completed another
page in our seed to plant journal. In
math, we created our own function machines.
