April 23rd- 27th

Monday:  Our new popcorn word is for and our new star letter is Jj.  Mrs. Keethler came today and told us about author/illustrator Mo Willems.  We read a story called I Broke My Trunk.   Today in science we read Earth Day-Hooray and sang an Earth Day song.  In art today we did a project.  We also went to music and learned about nonlocomotor and locomotor movement.  We wrote in our journals about our favorite holiday. 

Tuesday:  Today Lauren read us the book Dancing Class.  We went to music and practiced the two kinds of movement again.  We read Bread and Jam for Frances and wrote about our favorite part.  We also used the pictures and context clues to determine what the words “veal cutlets” and “doily” meant.  Mrs. Guttmann starting teaching us about Denise Fleming in the LMC.   We also read The Pigeon Wants a Puppy and some of us started writing speech bubble stories during writer’s workshop.  In math, we played the plus or minus game. 

Wednesday: Today in P.E. we played baseball.  We listened to Isabelle read the book No Kisses, Please.  We read the story The Jacket I Wear in the Snow and we wrote describing sentences about our jacket and made our jackets.  We also read the book Big Words for Little People.  Today in art we watched a video about the artist Mondrian.  In math, we compared 2-digit numbers in our math workbooks. 

Thursday:  We went to P.E. and played Star Wars.  In math today we put numbers in order on the computer and then put the numbers counting by 5s in order.  Alexis read us the book Friends for a Princess.  Today we read the story Jamberry  and practiced using context clues and pictures to decide what some of the words meant.  We also did lowercase j handwriting.  We read The Jester has Lost his Jingle. 

Friday:  Today we made a project for someone in our family to practice the popcorn word for.  We read the story Jaguar’s Jungleberry Jamboree.  Kaitlyn read us the story Down By the Bay.  Today we went to P.E. and played king pin.  We had writer’s workshop.  We read a book  called Miss Alaineous and the character in the story used a dictionary to find out what words meant.  We wrote in our journal about our favorite thing to do on the weekend.

April 16th-20th

Monday:  Our new popcorn word is come and our new star letter is Ee.  Today we read the book Ella Takes the Cake and we answered a question about the story.  Then we practiced making words from the “-ell” word family.  In math, we practiced counting and added pop tabs to our collection.  We also read a book called Our Earth.  We finished our chapter book about MonkeyMonkey today. 

Tuesday:  Today we went to music and practiced a new dance.  During R & R, we had our first Reader of the Day.  Angelina read us Are You My Mother?  We also did our capital letter E handwriting.  We went to the computer lab and practiced our keyboarding skills by typing words.  In Science we read Our Class is Going Green.  In math we made bundles and counted sticks by 10s and 1s.  We read the nonfiction book Chicken’s Aren’t the Only Ones and we made an egg with something inside that grows in an egg.

Wednesday:  Today we went to P.E. and played King Pin.  In math we practiced making equivalent names for numbers.   Luke read us the book Snowman’s Big Job.  We also read Elmer and Elmer in the Snow.  We made an Elmer project and completed a beginning, middle, end paper.  Today after Daily 5 we worked in our poem book for the letter Ee.

Thursday:  Today we went to P.E. and played garbage in my backyard.  In Science, we wrote and drew pictures to show and tell what we can do to take care of the earth.  We started number scrolls in math.  Chloe read us the story You Can’t Scare a Princess.  We had math centers today.  We wrote about our math centers in our journal.  We also had a Read-In.

Friday:  Today at P.E. we danced the chicken dance, cha-cha dance and the celebration dance.  We had writer’s workshop.  In our classroom today we danced.  We read the story called Come Along, Daisy! and wrote about what Daisy was doing.  We also read Never Ride your Elephant to School. In science we talked about conserving energy.   In math we finished our pop tab collection.  We collected 126 pop tabs.

Monday:  Today we wrote about the weekend in our journal.  Today we went to art and watched a video.  We also went to music and read Jump Frog, Jump!  and played the instruments.  Our new sight words are will and look.  Our star letter this week is Vv.  We also read a story about the Earth and talked about what we can do to help take care of the Earth.  In math, we wrote our own number stories for a class book.

Tuesday: We went to the LMC and bought books at the book fair.  Mrs. Guttmann also read us two books.  We went to music and played xylophones.  We practiced the capital letter V handwriting.  We read Let’s Go Visiting and used the clues to figure out where the boy visited.  We also read 10 Little Rubber Ducks.  In math, we recorded information about our collection and then built shapes with straws and twist ties.  Today we did writer’s workshop.

Wednesday:  Today in art we painted our Matreska dolls.  We went to P.E. and played the game called snowball.  Today we read a story called Walking Through the Jungle.  Then we made a class book.  In math we learned about the coin of a quarter.  We also counted on to add more pop tabs to our collection.  We have 49!   We also practiced reading with fluency and learned how to use expression/feeling reading to an exclamation point and how our voice gets higher before a question mark.

Thursday: Today we went to P.E. and played two games.  We read Look Closer and made our own book using the style of the authors.  In math we played dice addition games to practice counting on.  We also wrote a subtraction number story.  We read a book called Splish, Splash Spring.  This morning we did our lowercase letter v handwriting.  We also made “-ill” words  to practice our popcorn word will.

Friday:  We went to P.E. and played pinball.  Today we read a story called Vera Viper’s Valentine.   We went to a concert and listened to the orchestra, band and choir.  Monday we will read the last chapter of our MonkeyMonkey book.  We also made our letter V tracking book and wrote v words in our word book.

April 2nd-5th

Monday:  Today we went to music and watched part of a video and listened for pitched instruments.  Our new popcorn words are yes and no.  Our new star letter is Xx.  In math we used symbols to represent movement patterns.  We are practicing the 5 reading strategies this week.  We also went to art and worked on our Matreska doll faces.  Today we wrote in our journal about what we did over spring break.

Tuesday:  We went to music and Mrs. Burke read a story called Jump Frog, Jump and we sang a song.  In math we practiced dividing a whole in half and read a book about halves.  We read The Mixed-Up Chameleon and wrote about how we would mix ourselves up.  For science we read a story about seasons and how they change and then wrote about spring.  We also practiced using the reading strategy of finding chunks in long words to figure them out.

Wednesday:  In math we played a game with money.  We went to P.E. and played Dash for Cash.  Today we went to art and colored a picture of Matreska dolls.  Today we read a bear book and practiced the reading strategy of skip and read on.    We also practiced the reading strategy with the book In a Sub.  We read I Like Myself and made a project for the bulletin board.  We also answered questions with our new popcorn words (yes, no). 

Thursday:  We went to P.E. and played the Fitness Dice.  Today we got to go to the book fair and made our wish list.  In math we practiced writing tally marks  and are starting a class collection of pop tabs.  We wrote Xx words in our word books.  We read Mr. Mac’s Family Circus Extravaganza and practiced the 5 reading strategies.
