Jan. 23rd-27th

Monday:  Our new sight word is on.  Our star letter is Ff and we practiced our capital letter F handwriting today.  We went to art and practiced making clay snowmen.  In music we kept the beat with drums and xylophones.  We read The Hat, glued the beginning, middle and end and then retold the story with a friend.  Mrs. Keethler introduced us to the author/illustrators Don and Audrey Wood.  In math we practiced reading 2-digit numbers.
Tuesday: Today we read King Bidgoods in the Bathtub by Audrey and Don Wood.  We also practiced telling a story with a beginning, middle and end using pictures.  In math we practiced putting events in order and played the growing and disappearing train game.  We went to music.  In the LMC, Mrs. Gutmann read us a story about Chinese New Year.  We watched a video about magnets.
Wednesday:  We made a book with our sight word on.  Today in math we got math workbooks and made craft stick patterns.  We went to art and made a snowman with soft,  white clay.  We wrote our own story with a beginning middle and end after practicing with the picture cards again.  We also had P.E. and played with the fitness dice.  At calendar we found out that we have been in kindergarten for 92 days.
Thursday:  Today we went to P.E. and played a partner game.  We had KinConnect.  In math we listened to clues about the attribute blocks and had to figure out which block matched the clues.  We read a book and learned about the Kendall Science Fair.  We read Four Famished Foxes and Fosdyke, did a story map and retold the story.  Today we had a learning centers and Daily 5. 
Friday:  In writer’s workshop we practiced correcting a sentence for capital letters, punctuation and spaces.  We went to P.E. and played king pins.  We read The Rainbow Fish and talked and wrote about feelings.  We read Rainbow Fish to the Rescue and wrote about our favorite part of the story.  In math we worked on counting by 10s and putting the numbers in order.

Jan. 17th-20th

Tuesday: We went to music and sang the fish song.  We also went to the LMC and listened to stories about Martin Luther King, Jr.  We talked some more about Martin Luther King, Jr. and completed a dot-to-dot and color sheet.  We talked about Martin Luther King’s dream and wrote about our dream for the world.  We did capital letter G handwriting.  Our popcorn word for this week is to.

Wednesday:  We went to P.E. and played “Sorry.”  We also had art and colored a snowman with warm, cool, and primary colors.  We had math centers.  We also practiced sorting with attributes and played the “what’s my rule” fishing game.  We read Over in the Garden and made our own Over in the Garden class book.  We sorted “g” and “j” words. 

Thursday: We read Goldilocks and the Three Bears today.  We also made puppets and retold the story with a friend.  In math we practiced solving number stories and writing number sentences.  We had P.E. today with Mr. Popovich.  We also did lowercase letter g handwriting and practiced writing our first and last names. 

Friday: We read Gregory the Terrible Eater and wrote a menu.  We also made a grape puzzle.  In P.E. we had Fitness Friday.  We did writer’s workshop and talked about using correct capitalization.  We also made a letter G tracking book.

Jan 9th-12th

Monday:  Today we went to art and made a calendar for 2012.  In math we practiced our shapes and talked about the corners and sides of triangles, rectangles, and squares.  We read The Mitten Tree, answered a question about the story and made our own mittens.  We went to music today and practiced keeping a steady beat to the music.
Tuesday:  At the computer lab we played a game called Marble Addition.  Today we went to music and practiced a song and dance.  We read Snowmen at Night. We made a snowman and wrote about what our snowman does at night.  We also practiced rhyming and real/make believe.  We practiced our sight words he and she.  In math we used the minus sign to practice subtracting with unifix cubes.

Wednesday:  We read a book called A Very Special Snowflake and practiced writing words that rhyme with snow.  In math, we colored an AB and ABC pattern.  We also practiced using the words more, less, and equal to describe colored circles.  We read the story The Little Snowflake and made a project of the character of the snowflake.  Today in P.E. we did the racecar track.  We also went to art and drew a silly snowman.

Thursday:  We practiced writing one and two-digit numbers today.  It was pajama day.  We went to P.E. today and played with the fitness dice.  Today we read The Biggest, Best Snowman.  Today we wrote words in the “-est” word family.  We had writer’s workshop.  We read Sadie and the Snowman.  We learned about Martin Luther King, Jr.
