May 7th-11th

Thank you parents, students and PTA for all of the wonderful surprises during teacher appreciation week!

Monday: Our new star letter is Zz and our popcorn word is “one.”  Today we read a nonfiction book about zebras and made a web of what we know about zebras.  We also answered 3 questions about zebras.  We made a zebra puzzle too.  In science we started our plant unit by planting seeds and writing in our Seed to Plant Science Journal.  In math, we made clocks and began telling time using only the hour hand.  We went to Art and Music today.

Tuesday:  Today we made a zebra project.  The zebra we made is different than all of the other zebras.  We read the story Zink the Zebra.  During R&R Olivia read us the book A Fish out of Water.  Today we went to the LMC and read the Denise Fleming books Barnyard Banter, Count! and Alphabet Under Construction.   In math we played the high roller game.  We practiced labeling the parts of a flower in Science.  We also had music today and played the xylophone. 
Wednesday:  Today at R & R Presley read us The Foot Book.  We went to P.E. and played kingpin.   In math we learned how to use function machines.  We earned an extra recess.  We read Animal Strike at the Zoo.  We also read Put Me In The Zoo and made our own zig zag zoo book.  In art we made a hot air balloon project.  We wrote about our favorite place to eat or restaurant in our journals.  Today in writer’s workshop we made sure our sentences had a “who” and a “what.”
Thursday:  Today we read a book called Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin.  We practiced the “in” word family.  Aidan read the book Smooch Your Pooch  to the class during R & R.  In math, we got clues and had to figure out and write the numbers.  Today we had writer’s workshop and got to write with a partner.  We also got to write a list.  We went to P.E. and played Fitness Thursday.    We made a popcorn word flower project.  We also started new learning centers.
Friday:  Today we read Zack the Lazy Zebra.  We made our own Zz books and read them with a friend.  We also practiced writing words that start with Z.  Kylie was the Reader of the Day.  We went to P.E.  Today we pulp painted in the LMC.  This is how author Denise Fleming makes her illustrations.  We also played sight word bingo.
